Materials:

  • 4 (5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11) hanks in our suggested yarn Malabrigo Rios for the main color, 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2) hank(s) Malabrigo Rios for the contrast color.   
  • Original sample used Dragonfly Fibers Valkyrie in Wine Country and Golden Compass colorways. A superwash merino worsted weight with 9 wpi would be a good substitution.
  • US 6 (3.5 mm) 16"/40 cm and 32"/80 cm long circular needles and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles
  • US 8 (5mm) 16"/40 cm, 24"/60 cm and 32"/80 cm long circular needles and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle

Homework:

  • Work a 6 x 6” solid-colored stockinette swatch with larger needles and block properly to get gauge.
  • With smaller dpn and waste yarn, CO 80 (84, 88, 88, 92, 92, 92, 96, 96, 100) sts using Tubular CO (see techniques on pattern).
  • Pm for beg of rnd. Knit 4 rnds. Change to MC.
  • Work Rnds 1–3 of Tubular CO.
  • Work in K1, P1 Rib until piece measures 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1¼, 1¼, 1¼, 1¼, 1¼, 1¼)"/2.5 (2.5, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3) cm from CO edge.
  • Change to larger 16"/40 cm long circular needle.
  • Knit 1 rnd.
